Welcome to the Department of Genetics

Welcome to the Department of Genetics at Rutgers University. The mission of the Department is to promote excellence in education and research in the areas of genetics.

Situated on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ, the Department of Genetics was established in 1997 within the new Division of Life Sciences. The first permanent chair is Dr. Jay Tischfield. There are more than 29 faculty members in the Department, with a wide range of expertise in genetics and microbiology, who are located in the Nelson Biological Laboratories, the Life Sciences Building (Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey), and the Waksman Institute on the Busch Campus. Over the next few years the Department will be adding faculty in human genetics, bioinformatics, and genomics.
