Jody was elected by the membership of the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution (SMBE) to serve as president of the society. SMBE publishes the journals Molecular Biology and Evolution and Genome Biology and Evolution and sponsors the annual SMBE meetings.

David was invited to be a moderator for the session on "Challenges of Multi-scale Modeling in Cancer" at the National Cancer Institute's joint meeting of the Integrative Cancer Biology Program (ICBP) and Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Network (CISNET), in Bethesda MD, March 21-25, 2009. He also presented his research on "Prognosis of Young Women with Breast Cancer by Quantitative Image Analysis of p53 Protein and Nuclear DNA".
