Dr. McGuire was an invited participant to the SENCER Informal Science Education Conference held at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ March 6-8, 2011. The conference was funded by the National Science Foundation’s Informal Science Education Program and the Division of Undergraduate Education (DRL1001795) with additional funding from the Noyce Foundation. The SENCER ISE conference brought together 50 participants from formal science and informal science venues for an intensive three-day workshop to discuss continuing collaborations. This workshop was highly productive and will form the basis of a large NSF grant.
Dr. McGuire presented “Designing a SENCER model course in an hour” at New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ on April 8, 2011. This faculty development workshop for about 25 science faculty members was co-presented with Monica Devanas, David Burns and Ellen Mappen.
Dr. McGuire presented “Reinventing Myself as a Professor – The Continuing Importance of SENCER” at the SENCER House Call held at Southern Connecticut University, New Haven CT. April 15, 2011. Dr. McGuire consulted on implementation of SCU’s new Core Curriculum.
Dr. McGuire co–organized and ran with Monica Devanas the MidAtlantic 2011 Spring Conference for the SENCER Center for Innovation held at Barnard College, New York, NY. April 30, 2011.
