Abstract: Creationist critics of evolutionary theory in general and Darwinism in particular have insisted for decades that these theories are not scientific. American creationists maintain that evolutionary theory is false while many argue that creationism is a valid alternative theory to evolutionary theory and should be taught as such in science classrooms. The creationist position continues to endure as evident in recent changes in curriculum in some states and in poll data. Creationists cannot however have it both ways—evolutionary theory cannot be false and thus unscientific while an irrefutable creationist account cannot be scientific. How best should defenders of Darwin and evolution respond to the ongoing, omnipresent creationist challenge? |
