“Functional Overlap and Specialization of Divergent Actins in Chlamydomonas

Actin regulates cell morphology, membrane dynamics, intracellular transport, and more. However, it is involved in many processes primarily regulated by other cytoskeletal systems, such as the assembly of the microtubule-based organelle, the cilium. We used algal cells in which divergent actin genes are co-expressed to discover both novel mechanisms of actin-cilium crosstalk and fundamentals of actin regulation.
