"The functions of cis-regulatory elements in blood development, disorders and gene therapy"

Cis-regulatory elements (CREs) are the driving force in the conversion of static genomic DNA sequences into cell-, tissue-, and developmental stage–specific gene expression profiles. Alterations of CREs can cause human diseases and influence health-related traits. Using hematopoiesis as a model system, we integrate multiple-dimension genomic data, computational modeling, and high-throughput genetic perturbation to understand the impacts of CREs on normal blood development and disorders and apply the acquired knowledge, techniques to treat genetic disorders with gene therapy and genome editing.
