“Red queen and the lost boys : Roles for RNAi to silence sex chromosome conflict during speciation”

RNA interference (RNAi) is well-known as a tool for experimental gene silencing, but its endogenous RNA interference (RNAi) is well-known as a tool for experimental gene silencing, but its endogenous utilities are less understood, especially in metazoans. We are uncovering surprising and profound requirements for endo-RNAi substrates to suppress recently-emerged, selfish genes that manipulate Mendeli  n inheritance. Such intragenomic conflicts and theirresolution may drive speciation.
