Recent News Regarding Transition of Genetics Chair Position

To Members of the Life Sciences Community:

It is my distinct pleasure to inform you that Dr. Linda Brzustowicz has agreed to become Chair of the Department of Genetics within the Division of Life Sciences of the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences. Executive Dean Doug Greenberg and I are extremely pleased that this world renowned psychiatric geneticist will assume this important leadership position, with her term already having commenced as of September 1, 2010. Dr. Brzustowicz is a board-certified psychiatrist, who also is trained in molecular and statistical genetics. Her laboratory has published seminal works on the genetic basis of schizophrenia and autism. While serving as Chair, Dr. Brzustowicz will continue to direct her highly successful research programs.

Dr. Brzustowicz succeeds Dr. Jay Tischfield, the founding chair of the department who provided extraordinary leadership for the past 12 years. We all owe him a great debt of gratitude for building the department into a world class research and teaching enterprise, while placing Rutgers on the international map through his establishment of the Rutgers University Cell and DNA Repository. Dr. Tischfield is now focusing on his directorship of the Human Genetics Institute.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Linda Brzustowicz into her important new role as Chair, while thanking Dr. Tischfield for his extraordinary years of leadership.

Best,

Ken
