"Why study Hirschsprung disease?"

Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) is a multifactorial neurodevelopment disorder in which the gut lacks innervation, i.e., the enteric nervous system is absent. We have used HSCR as a model to understand why it demonstrates complex inheritance and its genes have provided a mechanistic view of this disorder.
