“Single-Cell Insights into the Development and Evolution of the Vertebrate Head”

Cranial neural crest cells generate an amazing diversity of cell types in the vertebrate head. Through single-cell profiling of neural crest-derived cells in zebrafish, we identified a role of the Nr5a2 nuclear receptor in controlling key fate decisions and a potential origin of the human outer ear from fish gills.
