  • Congratulations to Dr. Kaitlin Ching for her K99 NIH Pathway to Independence Award for her work entitled, "Investigating how mechanical force causes cilia to shed extracellular vesicles."

Cilia are hair-like protrusions from cells that play an essential role in the development and function of most human organs. This project will provide fundamental information about how mechanical force influences the messages cilia can send. Findings in this area can serve as the foundation for future ciliopathy therapeutics and clarify how cilium function differs between organs.

Special thanks to the Barr lab, the Rutgers Worm Supergroup, and the Department of Genetics at Rutgers for their support in developing this grant.
