Assistant Professor in Genetics
The Department of Genetics in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for an outstanding tenure-track Assistant Professor in Genetics. We seek a researcher who seeks to understand how genetic and epigenetic variation affects metabolic pathways and how metabolic feedback can alter genomic function. Applicants who apply these approaches to cancer are especially encouraged to apply. Outstanding researchers in other areas that complement and/or expand our existing strengths will also be considered.
New faculty may leverage partnerships between the Department of Genetics and areas of existing strength at Rutgers, including the Cancer Metabolism and Immunology Research Program at the NIH-designated Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, other metabolomics and metabolism labs in the Department of Life Sciences, the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, the Institute for Food Nutrition, and Health, and the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute.

The Department of Genetics has several faculty whose research is either entirely computational in nature or whose research employs a hybrid of both computational and wet-lab methods. The list below provides a brief description with links to lab pages with more information.
- David Axelrod studies cell and molecular oncology, breast cancer, colon cancer.
- Linda Brzustowicz and her lab study medical and human genetics: the genetics of neuropsychiatric disorders. Her computational work is facilitated by Marco Azaro.

- Derek Gordon is a statistical geneticist who develops and applies methods to identify genes for complex traits including longitudinal traits.

The Department of Genetics in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey seeks outstanding tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professors to complement the existing faculty in computational genetics, moving our program into exciting new areas and expanding our existing strengths. The department hosts one of the oldest undergraduate majors in Genetics in the country, is a member of a strong Ph.D. program, and runs a new Genetic Counseling masters program. We are part of a vibrant and interactive research community at Rutgers, an elite research institution, topping $608 million in yearly research funding (FY2017). Our computational group collaborates with other Department of Genetics faculty and Rutgers scientists within the Division of Life Sciences, the Departments of Computer Science and Statistics, the Waksman Institute of Microbiology, the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine, the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS), the Center for Human Evolutionary Studies, and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Our 30 faculty members drive federally funded research programs in broad areas of genetics and genomics including cancer, computational, developmental, evolutionary, molecular, neuro- and neuropsychiatric, population, reproductive, statistical, and epigenetics, conducting research in humans, mice, zebrafish, fruit flies, nematodes, yeast and bacteria. Experienced faculty with appropriate experience will be considered for a leadership role within our Computational Genetics Group. Core resources, access to high-performance computing clusters, and generous start-up funds will be provided. Research space, including a wet lab if needed, will be provided. Endowed Chair in Cancer Genomics
The Rutgers University Department of Genetics seeks nominations or applications from leading scholars for the MacMillan Endowed Chair in Cancer Genomics. The Chair is accompanied by significant resources and faculty appointments that will build on existing strengths in both research and educational programs. This individual will lead a division of faculty and staff who together will establish an endowment-supported undergraduate and graduate programs in Cancer Genomics. Candidates working in all areas of cancer genomics will be considered.
This Chair will be appointed in the Rutgers University Department of Genetics, with membership in the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (a consortium NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center for Rutgers and Princeton Universities) and the Rutgers Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey.
